im going to my gyno today after a bad scare with the ring. Pills are not an option for me, or is the shot, they all mess with my head. I did a little research for the IUD, but i want to hear personal experiences. likes & dislikes, did it hurt, etc?

I used it when it first came on the market and I had some bad problems with it.

Be aware that Mirena has hormones in it, so if you've had problems with the pill, shot, and ring, then Mirena may not be right for you.

Before insertion discuss this with your doctor!!!

I got my Mirena IUD on 2/5/07. I thought it was going to be painful. I only felt a pinch that was it. The doctor recommend taking Tylenol or Aleve one hour before the appointment but absolutely NO asprin. I have had no cramps with it so far, just a little spotting which is nothing to worry about. By the way, if you have never had a kid, then it's going to be real painful for you. The doctors recommend it to women who have had at least one child. I have a 2 year old, so I was a good candidate. Hope it helps!

I have had the mirena for a month and a half now and i'm not sure if I like it or not. I like the fact of not having to worry about birth control but my periods are lasting for 2 weeks instead of one. I think that may be normal at first but i'm not really sure. When they place the mirena it does hurt a little bit more than a papsmear but I would rather go through that little bit of pain rather than remember to take a pill every day. You will have some mild cramps the first couple of days but if you take some tylenol then you shouldn't notice them.
