is it common to have braxton hicks this early (18 weeks) and i have been feel the baby move is it normal to not feel her moving while i am having this contractions, i havent felt her all day. i have the contractions since early this morning i cant get into the dr for another couple of hours so i am just curious as to how serious this is. i have a cerclage (stitch in cervix) so i have to go in for an ultrasound to check my cervical length. i was just wondering if all that was normal for braxton hicks, not feeling baby and if you normally get them this early in pregnancy.
thanks so much

I think you should call and talk to your Dr's nurse and describe what you are feeling. The nurse will know more about your exact medical history and your specific signs/symptoms.

However, I had braxton hicks contractions practically throughout both of my pregnancies. I wouldn't think 18 weeks would be too early. These kinds of contractions should be inconsistent, not like true labor contractions. This means that they might be 20 minutes apart, then 15, then maybe 30. True labor contractions just keep getting closer together. Also, you can usually get some relief from braxton hicks with rest, massage, a change of position. Nothing gets rid of true labor contractions. I remember having a very difficult time riding in cars while pregnant. The jostling around always brought on braxton hicks contractions, but as soon as the car would stop the contractions would stop too.

My advice is to try to relax as much as possible - and call your nurse for further, more specific advice just in case!

Well I am not really sure. I would really talk to your doctor about them. I didn't start getting mine until about the end of my 3rd trimester.

It doesn't sound normal to me...I am not trying to worry you or anything. But if the dr says that everything is fine then I wouldn't worry about it cause it will just cause extra stress on your baby that neither of you need.

The best thing I can tell you is when you have the "fake" contractions go and lay down and do your breathing and try to relax. I read that somewhere those contractions are usually brought on by alot of stress but I don't know if it was true or not.

Anyway I hope everything turns out ok, And congrats. :)

as for the braxton hicks, you can have them at any time, i had them from week 9 or 10 (when i found out i was pregnant) but im not sure about the baby movement thing, i would call your doctor asap and see if you can get in today, it might not be something that serious but really its not worth risking it.... good luck i hope everything works out for you.
