I know this sounds gross but I need help. This is baby number 3. She is now 8 months old. She only nurses a few times a day now. I have noticed that between feedings my nipples are so dry. They have flaky skin on them that peels off when touched. They are just so dry. I have used Palmer's Cocoa butter but it only soothes them, it doesn't make the dry skin go away. Thanks so much for you advice!!! :)

lansinoh lanolin ointment
(squeeze some on breast pads then stick them in the freezer for a while then put them on, it feels great) it does not need to be washed off before nursing

you need pure lanolin. The hospital recommends Lansinoh brand. It is safe for you to use during breastfeeding and really helps to heal dry or cracked nipples. After breastfeeding it works well on dry feet or lips too. I found mine at a local drug store.

Good luck.

You need lanolin - pure lanolin - it's the best thing for this, natural, not harmful to your baby and WORKS.

Lansinoh Lanolin by Ameda is the only nipple cream endorsed by the La Leche League and is medical-grade lanolin that soothes and helps heal sore, cracked nipples.

Lanolin. You can get Lanosil, I think it's called. You don't have to worry about wiping it off before nursing. I used it all the time with my first. My second baby doesn't nurse as much, so it hasen't been a problem.

Lanolin works great for that kind of thing. Lansinoh, as well as Medela, have lanolin specifically for breastfeeding moms, and it doesn't hurt the baby if they inadvertantly ingest some of it off your breast, either. It's rather thick, tarry stuff, but it works great.

I used pure lanolin with my 2nd one because he pretty much nursed 24/7. It worked really well but I did have to wipe it off for nursings. But it was worth it, I wouldn't have made it without it. Make sure you aren't allergic to wool.

Good luck!
