Ok, your first step is to multiply how much each of the values are for example:
1 nickel + 5 cents
1 dime = 10 cents
1 quater = 25 cents

A. 32x5 + 12x10 + 4x25 =3.80 NO
B. 35x5 + 17x10 + 6x25 =4.96 NO
C.40x5 + 15x10 + 5x25 = 4.75 YES
D.42x5 + 16x10 + 5x25 = 4.95 NO

So you answer is C

p = total number of coins

(2/3)P *(5 cents) + (1/4)P *(10 cents) + (1-2/3 -1/4)P * (25 cents) = 475

use common dinominator of 12

8/12 *P*5 + 3/12 *P*10 + 1/12 *P*25 = 475
P*(40/12 +30/12 +25/12) = 475
P*(95/12) = 475
P = 475 * 12 / 95 = 60

Nickles = 2/3*60 = 40
So the answer is (C)

dimes = 1/4 * 60 = 15
Quarters = 1/12 * 60 = 5

C - just look at the available options

60 coins:
(2/3)60 = 40 nickels = $2.00
(1/4)60 = 15 dimes = $1.50
5 quarters = $1.25

2.00 + 1.50 + 1.25 = 4.75
