people especially girls have a need to make themselves feel bigger than others by being mean. Kinda like High School Musical everybody was classified in one group or another then when troy and Gabriella tried to change that sharpay didn't like it. you see this problem in most rich stuck up or snobby girls the truth is they know you are prettier than and are jealous of you so they try to make you feel bad just ignore them and if this is your so called friends saying these things they ain't really your friends

In general - we learn at a young age how to organize and classify people, places, and things. As we grow older, that classification process takes a lot of different twists and turns and challenges us - interpersonally - on what we will and will not accept.
For instance - in your example - it appears that you're quite comfortable with yourself. Many teens see clothing and cars and other material possessions as a way to align themselves with an 'acceptable' grouping of people.
The sad thing is - while that isn't necessarily BAD - people can get lost in trying to identify too closely with a 'group'...instead of just being themselves.
I admire your spunk and independence - it's something we don't have enough of in this world :).
Kristina - the older chick - who has been there, done that.

I think that it's in human nature, really. It helps people to "put things where they belong". It helps prioritize people so that you know which people you admire and want to be like, and which people you don't like and don't want to be like. That way you know who to hang out with and stuff. Classifying others isn't a great thing, and it definitely limits how you react to others, but it happens.
I think the best way to handle being classified is just to shrug it off. You can't help liking yourself the way you are, and trying too hard to be anything else can be detrimental to how you see yourself. You can change your personality, tastes, etc., but it takes a lot of constant hard work and dedication. (that being the prime reason why most people, including myself, don't try to change themselves)
Be who you are and like it. That's the only way to do it. Ignore the people who try to label you and stick you in a box, because otherwise you're going to be miserable.

Well, Its high school. A**holes will be just that. If you like Hollister, and Vans, thats awesome. It is what you feel looks cute on you, and exudes your personality. Besides, boys will like girls that are more comfortable with themselves, and can take the time to be a hottie, and a comfortable cutie too.Be yourself girl!

That's how a lot of people are in HS. The best thing you can do is just ignore it. Hopefully, people will be more mature in a few more years.
