It depends when you passed your test. If you passed in the last 9 years then no. New categories where brought in around the same time when the theory test was introduced and the photo card was brought out. If you look the back of your photo card (or paper license if you haven't had it changed) and it will tell you what categories you are allowed to drive.

If you are in the UK with a category B on your license then no. Look up Driving Standards Agency (DSA) to find out what category of test you need to drive a 7.5 ton lorry.

Going back to the question. If you passed your normal car test before 1998 then yes you can, but if passed after you need to take your class 2 (HGV C)

It depend when you passed your test. 1998 or before, and I believe you can. Any time after that, the biggest you can go on a standard car licence is 3.5 tonne

i hired and drove 1 on a normal licence, that was a few years ago, the only thing is u have to know about the tachograph.
