Ok,I'm bit of new to driving, but i did completely master it within days. Also my car has got much more smooth,so I prefer to drive in as high gear as possible e.g.even if the speed is 35 km/ph or so I drive in 3rd gear but the car does'nt give jerk then,it still goes smooth, likly in any other gear.
MY question is ,when driving,is it harmful for ur car to drive in high gear while it is still low in speed, also will it make effect on fuel efficincy,be negative or positive?

David, I have been driving for 40+ years 35 of them with a CDL and I learn something everyday! Now about your question, You will do more harm and wear on your car by lugging the enginee at low RPM then the fuel you will save. Keeping the higher will keep your engin from waring out. Have you ever had a bike with gears in it? It is easier to get it going in a lower gear and work up to the higher gars then starting off in top gear.

In most cases if your car is not lugging (bucking back and forth) it will not harm your engine. I am assuming that you are selecting the gears meaning that you have a standard shift transmission. If this is the case you should select a higher gear as you move along and gain speed. I hope you are not putting yourself in jeopardy by going as slow as you can to save fuel. You need to keep up with traffic. If you have an automatic transmission or availability to drive one, you will see how the task of shifting is automatically done and it will give you a better feel for shifting up on a manual transmission.

If the car feels "forced" or like it's trying too hard (even if you're in a low speed @ high gear) then your fuel economy is suffering.

The trick isn't necessarily to do what you're doing, but to shift gears early until you reach a comfortable feel with the car.

Don't force anything either way. The big difference in gas mileage has already been established by buying a manual transmission. Relax.

No, not bad at all and extremely fuel efficient. You are just sacrificing power for efficiency, which is not big deal unless you are going up a hill or something...

My friend drives like that all the time. I swear he never lets the RPMs get above 1500...

Plus going to a higher gear prevents a lot of abuse on your engine.

It can be harmful if you allow your engine to rev too low.
In general keeping your rpms down will save you gas, but be careful not to let the engine rpms fall too low. If you are below 1800 rpms or so .. coasting is OK but if you need to accelerate you should downshift to get the engine into it's powerband.
