There was a news item in Canada where a woman left a new born baby outside a persons home in sub artic weather this weekend .The police are trying to locate the mother, and in a television interview the police officer said we are not goiing to slap handcuffs on her and arrest her.If this was a man who did the same thing the cops would lock him up and throw away the key.Why is there such gender bias and seemingly two sets or laws that apply whether one is a male and a female. This also holds true in the area of child support and child custody and in reports of domestic violence.

Further to the posting by Baba Yagur (sorry if I get the name wrong). The incident that you pulled from the CBC appears to be another story. The one I am referring to happened in Saskatchewan this past weekendinfo.http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20070207.wxbaby07/BNStory/National/home
Scared student gave birth alone, then abandoned baby
KATHERINE HARDING
From Wednesday's Globe and Mail
Month after month, the frightened 18-year-old woman hid an unwanted pregnancy from the world by wearing baggy clothes.
No one suspected. She has few friends in Saskatoon, where she is a postsecondary student. Police say she comes from a "difficult background" and isn't close to her family.
Last Friday, alone and afraid, she gave birth to a healthy seven-pound baby girl at her home through the night.
By sunrise on Saturday, the panicked woman carefully wrapped her child -- who was covered in blood and mucous and whose umbilical cord was still attached --in a red towel

Yep...there IS a double standard.
I'd include on your list....."Teachers who molest students". There is an entirely different standard used to judge and punish male teachers as opposed to female teachers.
In the US there is a large problem of female teachers molesting children...and it appears to be largely ignored or downplayed by the media and the judicial system, meanwhile, male teachers are routinely sentenced to prison for the same offenses

I don't understand what your question has to do with the rest of your information. You did remark that "The police are trying to locate the mother, and in a television interview the police officer said we are not goiing to slap handcuffs on her and arrest her.If this was a man who did the same thing the cops would lock him up and throw away the key." If your allegation is that women "get away with this" as a matter of course in Canada, then how do you explain the following CBC story? Free Tip of the Day: (1) always DO YOUR RESEARCH and (2)Making blanket statements (generalising, stereotyping) tends to boomerang. That myth now dispelled, I will only add that you know diddly about the case. You know nothing about either parent, or the situation. Time for you to stop spreading unfounded and outright malicious gossip and let the cops go about their work.
"Police charge mother of 'miracle baby'"
CBC News, January 27, 2003 | 3:18 PM ET
A homeless woman has been charged by police after leaving a newborn baby outside in the bitter cold near the steps of City Hall.
The girl was discovered around 10:15 p.m. Friday night at Nathan Phillips Square. She was covered with a dirty pink blanket and weighed just four pounds, nine ounces.
"We found the naked baby that was lying directly on the concrete," said Const. Walter Brasca, the first police officer to arrive.
"It had a section of umbilical cord still attached to it. There was blood and fluid on the baby, but it was moving and crying," he said Sunday….

The mother was trying to provide the best way she could for her child by giving it away. Where was the father during this whole decision-making process? Why are the police only looking for the mother? They won't slap handcuffs on her and arrest her but, they will place handcuffs on her and arrest her. Child support and child custody are a hot button issue with me. If the man doesn't pay child support, then they take it from his IRS tax, but what if there is nothing? The woman gets nothing. She still has to support the child/children while the husband is footloose and fancy free. In fact, he can still get visitation. So, I think there is just as much double standard for men as there is for women.

How are men necessarily "superior" to women? What objective criteria do you use to make that determination? In terms of generalizations, you could say that men are more aggressive and have a greater capacity for physical strength, and perhaps are more logically geared than the opposite gender; women, however, are generally more in tune with the emotions of others, they mature much faster than guys, and have more straightforward common sense. So when you think about it, the two genders are kind of balanced out when you compare and contrast their strengths and weaknesses. That's not even taking into account standard deviations, and the fact is that every single human being is unique regardless of gender or race. To answer your question more directly, I think chauvinism is a form of disrespect, and being disrespectful is inherently frowned upon - particularly in today's society as we enter an era of tolerance and acceptance.

Yes, the male role is being broke down.
Traditionally, spousal abuse, infidelity, and other wrongful treatments of women were looked down upon in the society. However, these incidents were high, just not reported.
It seems that to fix this, many women have taken it upon themselves to diminish men --- like breaking wild horses --- like military stuff. In this breaking women feel they need to do, they're also overlooking the benefits of the traditional roles men's leadership have.
I would say feminism has had many surceases and many failures- with restoring the man's male dignity a failure --- but as single mom's and the traditional man who fights against spousal abuse, infidelity, objectivity, and other harmful stuff ... I can see that as pioneers of saying "No" to these bad things that happen that women became self relient to the point where they fooled themselves to be happy without men ... well, I would say the pendulum is swinging back, and many of the daughters/ granddaughters of the feminist revolution is pulling this back. These daughters see the value of men through the absence of them; and long for what was promised by religion & other traditional roles.

I think the police officer is the one diminishing the male in this case. Either parent should be able to come forward and not expected to be treated differenly. More than likely mum and dad are young and scared and not equipped.
As to the role of men being diminished in society, I don't think so. I do think men who ask questions like this tho have an axe to grind against women and in particular feminists. Only a very insecure chauvinstic male would think this way.
Most men know they have an important role to play in their lives of their children both male and female , but most of the time when it comes to support, the man is trying to punish the ex wife , rather than support his children so he doesn't pay, doesn't participate in making sure he sees his children on a regular basis, isn't respectful to his ex wife because he's still mad at her or he just leaves and becomes a dead beat dad. Men like that use money and time as a weapon against their children and then cry the women are turning their children against them. Most kids aren't stupid, they know if dad isn't really interested anymore he 's not going to be around, especially if he's got a gf on the side with other children by him.

There is obviously a father somewhere, dont place all the blame on the woman. And the blame is not so much placed on the woman because women are generally the ones left to take care of the child, the man buggers off if stuff gets tough.

Men are becoming useless. They just wander from woman to woman trying to **** her and they get away with it because women let them. They at least once could be counted on to work and support a family but now they don't even want to do that anymore and they make their wives or gfs work AND do all the chores AND take care of the kids. Divorced men are the biggest pieces of **** because they are bitter from their ex wives and they won't lift a finger for you so yeah, men are WORTHLESS!

I hope they are just saying that so she will come forward.
Maybe they won't "slap handcuffs on her and arrest her" but merely 'place' handcuffs on her and arrest her.
She should be arrested and punished.
