Might be all the own. They probably feel that is the best way to keep from a thief stealing it and might just have everything they hold dear to them in the purse. Else, just a sence of security.

To her, its her whole life, credit cards, check book, etc. My stepmom puts hers over her shoulder, and when she is in the car she buckles her seat belt through the strap. When we are at my brothers for christmas or some other event, she carries it around with her all day. If she loses track of it she screams, 'there's enough medication in there to kill a kid!' and I have to remind her we just came for lunch, why does she need all her medication. Its an obsession.

Its not whats in the purse. Its just the fact that its hers and she wants to hold on to it and make sure no one takes it. Im 20 and I do the same thing with my purse better safe than sorry.

Her social security check, her pictures of her grandkids, her medication, her keys to her house basically everything that is important to her that wold cause great anguish if she were to get it stolen.

Why would anyone want to bother an old lady for her purse?

My grandma carries absolutely everything in hers! We went to Europe a few years ago and she wouldn't leave anything behind. I tried to convince her that she didn't need to take her checkbook or her grocery store check cashing cards, but she just said, "You never know." I think it's just a sense of security for my grandma.

I think it's a generation gap thing. I think she's so worried that some young punk is going to try and snatch her purse if she holds it anywhere that can be easily seen, and then easily snatched.
