I think that all depends on what you are saying to them. Are you saying, "u r so haWt." Or, are you being respectful, writting grammatically correct? Also, the content in what you are saying is important. Be interesting, funny and leave out the hotness factor.

Find a group online from the same national background as yours or work on your grammar and English writing skills. Nothing turns someone off online faster than broken English/writing skills.

It depends on what you are looking for. If you make it know that you only want sex you probably won't get a lot of responses. Just take your time, say Hi, How are you doing today or something like that
