A lot of women feel pressured from family as to how big a wedding must be. If the couple are paying for it they should discuss a budget and stick to it, if it puts you in debt then it is to much.
No parent should have to mortgage a home to get their daughter married. I have three daughters and they know we will pay one price and they can decide to use it on a wedding or what ever they want but we will not go into debt for them.
The divorce rate has nothing to do with it it is just smart money management.
I went to a $2500.00 wedding and had as much fun as I did at a $100,000.00 wedding, actually I had a better time because it was more casual and the people were there to celebrate the marriage and not worried about how much it was costing.

To everyone who says "It's a sin" To you, yes it is. But to a civil rights movement, you cannot incorporate your religion. Though a lot do. When marriage between a man and a woman can be instituted in a civil setting with absolutely no religious undertones, that has taken away the sanctity of marriage. Because you're technically taking away the "married in God's eyes" part. So why aren't you yelling about that? Gay and lesbian couples can adopt just the same. Some make even better mothers and fathers than straight couples (just my experience) Your truth is your truth alone. We can't found human and civil rights on religion. Look where that got us in the slave days. Yes the bible said it was ok to have slaves, but it also said in a scripture after that to treat them as equals. Not the way that you did. So how about not so much hypocrisy? Also how does it destroy marriage when a lot of people love each other a lot more and don't get married just because they had sex or got pregnant? Those always end in divorce. Peoples reasoning for wanting it illegal is only religious reasons. Since we have separation of church and state (at least we should) then the point of "sin" is null and void. @Jackal Why would they not want to marry? When someone finds someone they love why can they not show it the way anyone else does? Maybe they want to get married in the eyes of their creator or just showing everyone an outward sign of their inward affection.

Their thinking love and marriage. Their not thinking that they just may make the divorce rate any higher.

I have no clue why anyone would want to do that. I'm okay with not spending that much money on a wedding given the current divorce rate. I don't plan on getting divorced, but then again I'm not currently planning on getting married either.

All I know is if your intended insists on spending "multi-thousands" on the wedding, terminate the relationship. Now! Because you ARE going to divorce them.

Nobody wants to believe that they can't be successful at marriages. And every woman is a sucker to make their childhood dreams come true by being the most beautiful bride ever.
