i would say parcelforce, they are pretty good, and quite reasonable, just ask the buyer for the weight, and the postcode and go on to parcelforce, online, put the details in, and hey presto, you can book it and pay online,

E-Bay is where we get most of our kids shoes. I love Birkis, but I'm not going to pay $60 to get a pair that will probably only last one season of one year. I've actually bought a lot of other stuff from eBay: guitars, kids' clothing, a Chemex coffee-maker, Kathe Kruse dolls, vintage board games from the 50's.... the list goes on. I prefer buying used if possible. When I do buy new it is (ironically) from Amazon -- mostly sundry items that aren't sold around the podunk town we live in (like the filters for the aforementioned coffee-maker) but we got the kids' car seats there too. It's the free shipping thing -- and the ability to buy a ridiculous assortment of items and have them all ship for free. You can get some nice used books from Amazon too -- and it is, I'll confess, one of the safest places to shop. Everything is guaranteed and returns have never been difficult. Only thing to watch out for with either place is feedback from specific sellers. I've had two bad eBay experiences, and it's a real time suck to get money back from a dishonest seller. But it was partially my fault for not reviewing their feedback beforehand -- I'd advise not to go with anyone who has any nasty feedback because it's not worth chancing it. I've passed up some really sweet deals just because I didn't want to chance getting screwed again. Conversely, people with 100% feedback want to maintain it. I've never had a problem with a seller on either eBay or Amazon who had 100% feedback.

Whilst agreeing with much of what others say, might I suggest that if you have a similar item, you take it to the P.O and ask them what it would cost by the cheapest method, then e-mail the seller, telling them how they can send it and suggest adding in the postage cost plus say-£1 for wrapping and see how they respond. It's no big deal, I often send golf clubs by post.

Is it very fragile? Is that why the seller will only do pick-up's?
I suppose it depends on how much the thing is worth and how badly you want it. If it's a one off, then however much it costs it will be worth it. But if you can get from somewhere else that will deliver, I would

I wouldn't bother - any seller worth dealing with on ebay will post items of that size. They sound a bit lazy to me!

You may want to find another seller. But if you want this item, you could send the seller postage so he can send it via US Mail or UPS.

I would'nt bother buying from them. Unless it is incredibly expensive (in which case it can be insured) or weighs an absolute ton (which by the sounds of things is not likely) they are being small minded by not posting it to you.

find someone else to buy it from. it would be cheaper to ship it to you, than for you to drive 200 miles to get it. sounds like they're just being lazy.
