it is very influential in my life...It was a phenomenon to me and my brother years before we were even aware of the book let alone the movie. Obviously when we found out about the book, we were completely blown away. To some it's only a #, but to me, it's much more. call it synchronicity or simply a "sign" it appears when I have a hunch, and when it appears by surprise, I pay extra attention to the situation I'm in or look for a hidden meaning...Kinda like Jim Carrey in The #23, I can see how someone could get that carried away...its easy to. What does it mean to you ???

The "Hitchhiker's" creator-writer answer the question this way:

THE QUESTION: Why 42?
HIS ANSWER: The answer to this is very simple. It was a joke. It had to be a number, an ordinary, smallish number, and I chose that one. Binary representations, base thirteen, Tibetan monks are all complete nonsense. I sat at my desk, stared into the garden and thought '42 will do' I typed it out. End of story.

Best,

Douglas Adams was probably 42 when he wrote Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Either that, or he figured he would be 42 before anyone made it into a sappy movie.
