Are those absolute value bars?

There are two numbers whose absolute value is 10. They are 10 and -10.

So, if |4y+6|=10, then 4y+6 must be one of those numbers. Solve the equations 4y+6=10 and 4y+6=-10 to find y=1 and y=-4.
