I really don't know what i want to do with my life and I have been talking to some close friends about ideas, and they ask if I want to do these things for the "right" reasons. I am so confused by this, that i no longer know what are the "right" reasons. Could you help me out?

The right reasons are you wanting to do something because you want to do it. Wanting to do something, like being a doctor for instance, because your parents say you should, is not the right reason. Being a bank robbing sheep herder because you want to do it is the right reason and is totally ok.

By the way your avatar is adorable.

Maybe what they mean by "right" reasons is like asking if these possibilities correspond to your sense of ethics.

Someone might choose to be a stripper. If it's not against their personal ethics, then it's okay. If it's going to cause serious harm (psychological) to your kids or family, maybe it's not okay even though you wouldn't be bothered.

If you're thinking of becoming a teacher so you have summers off (I taught for 2 years and believe me, there are some teachers who teach just for this reason), you may want to rethink that: unless your spouse/ SO makes a lot of money, you'll have to do a part-time job to fund those months off and do you think you'll be able to give your heart and soul to kids just for a long summer? People do it all the time. IMO, it's a poor choice, not a "right" reason to teach but that's me.

If you're moving in with someone to tick off your parents, maybe a better idea would be becoming independent or having neutral-party roommates, not "living with someone." A "right" reason may be to see if you can live with that person and maintain a healthy relationship but in order to effect "punishment" on someone else might not be so healthy. Think about what you really want. Think about what you'll have to give up or do in order to make this lifestyle change.

Well, having once been young and confused too I will tell you this. If you do something because you are trying to escape your life, that's the wrong reason. People marry for this reason, get pregnant, leave home, drop out of school etc.

Do something because it's RIGHT for you in the grand scheme of life.

You will know what that is if you listen to your instincts.

maybe when they said the right reason they meant that the decision you are taking are not influenced by some emotional side or influenced by someone.
What i will suggest you is, relax and take some time to write down what you think you want to do, make a list, then analyze this list and sort out the one which you doubt.
in the end you will get only some few names from which you will have to choose, this will decrease the confusion and increase clarity in your thoughts about you wants from future or yourself.

This sits within the questions and notions of philosophy...
SO:
Do you wish to be another Mother Theresa?
Would you like to be the next American president?
What is stopping you from just being you?
The notion of 'right reasons' is very much tied to the theory that, whatever we do, those wonderful acts are purely for
Sorry. I have to go back and research the notion of "enlightened self-interest"
Damn. I just lost it again

do something because you love to do and because it makes you feel better about you, unless it 's killing people. But also note that this might change as time goes on, but there is nothing wrong with that, who said you have to do one thing for the rest of your life. Change it up, keep the excitement of something new in your life. Ready? Go!
