The goal of Kamikaze pilots was not simply to die. Thier goal was to damage and sink enemy ships by crashing into them. If they were to not wear helmets, it would increase the chances that they would be incapacitated by a piece of flak or shrapnel. The helmets served to keep them alive until they were able to crash into the enemy ships, thus completing their mission.

Kamikaze pilots wor their helmets because:

1. They were part of the flyer's uniform.
2. Their earphones were in them.
3. They still needed the protection provided by the helmet enroute to the target.

OK, first of all, if a pilot was not certain that he could sink an enemy ship he was suppose to do everything in his power to come back to fight another day. Dieing for the sake of dieing was not considered honorable or noble, just waistful. Just because he was prepared to die for his country didn't mean he willing to subject himself to risks that would simply cost him his life. You must also consider that the helmet was part of his uniform and necessary equipment he needed to do his job.

This was back in the times of Pearl Harbor. They wore the helmets because the airplane cabins were not pressurized and they were needed to keep their heads warm. If you look back at old photos there not exactly crash helmets. Ergo, without them they would never have made it to their respective targets.

If they messed up and crashed or something, or had to jump out because they missed their target location...they should be alive to go back and die the right way no?\

So they didn't take a piece of shrapnel to the head and die before they got to their target.

...and to keep their ears warm. It was mighty cold up there.

That is a hilarious question. However, you know, their first intention was not to crash into targets. That only came when they were out of ammo.
