My husband and I are trying to conceive a girl (hopefully) I have talked to pharmacists and and couple of gynocologists about methods to make the chances a bit higher. I bought a basal thermometer today and I heard that you should only try to conceive RIGHT after your period so your egg is high, take the temp and at a certain temp, the male sperm die off faster and the female swim faster and farther. WHAT TEMPERATURE SHOULD YOUR BODY BE AT TO HAVE THE BETTER CHANCE TO CONCEIVE A GIRL??? I thought you can only conceive durring ovulation...can anyone help me with this. My mother and 2 other women in my family used the method and it worked for them (may have been coincedence, may not have been). Please, don't give an answer like what a stupid question or make fun of me. It is a serious question.

Your temp will be low--probably in the 97 range before ovulation and the day after ovulation it will go up by at least .4 probably close to the 98 range. You are correct that you can only get pg during ovulation. Sperm can live up to 5 days. Female sperm swim slower but live longer than male sperm. Basically you need to have sex 2-3 days BEFORE ovulation but no sooner to ovulation. To help improve the chances of girl-- go to www.google.com and search for shettles method girl and it will explain in detail how to get a girl. You will need to chart your temps and your cervical mucus and use ovulation tests for a month or two before having unprotected sex so you get to know your body. Also, get the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler--you can get a cheap used copy from ebay. Good luck!

yes, the other poster is right, you can only get pregnant during ovulation, which usually occurs in the middle of you cycle, example : 28 day cycle, ovulation day 12-16. Sperm can live for 5 days so for a girl you should avoid sex right before ovulation, instead have sex a few days before ovulation, let the male sperm die off, and hopefully only the females will survive. I did this on accident and I had a girl. It may take a bit longer to get pregnant since you want to avoid having sex during ovulation, but you could also get lucky. So good luck on getting your girl!
