On Stargate SG1 how did the Ancients get the Stargate portals on the planets?

On this Sci-Fi show, the ancients put these portals all over the universe, to make space travel possible and unlimited...My question is how did they travel to all of these places without the receptive Stargate portal on the other end?

use your imagination the ancients did have the means to travel great distances. They had longer life spans than we do when they travel to other planets they just build the star gates to make traveling faster and easier.
