my girlfriend is pregnant and we just got back from the doctor. he said she was measuring at 35 weeks but she is only 32 weeks! is this normal? could they have the date of conception wrong? i dont know much about pregnancy either. she had an ultrasound 2 weeks ago and they said the baby weighed 3.5 lbs. and she is scheduled for another ultrasound in two weeks. they said the heartbeat was normal and there is nothing wrong with the baby, so why are they doing so many ultrasounds? any help, advice, or personal experience is greatly appreciated!

Yeah. That doesnt mean anything. I am also 32 weeks and have been measuring 34 weeks since I was 29 weeks. At 29 weeks, my baby weighed 3 lbs and 4 oz. Dont worry about anything. This is my 4th baby and I measured small with my 2nd and that was a few days before delivery and he ended up being 8 lbs and 8 oz. It means nothing. Sounds like your baby is doing fine and right on schedule at 3 lbs and 5 oz.

They're doing ultrasounds because she's measuring large, and they want to make sure all is well.

There's a million reasons she could be measuring large--large baby, high fluid levels, miscalculated dates, poor measuring technique, a fluke--it could be nearly anything! She could also measure large for a couple of weeks then level off. And of course, it could be twins (which I would guess they would have caught during the last ultrasound).

I know this is going to seem like an impossibility, but try not to worry unless the doctor actually gives you something to worry about. And feel free to ask your doctor questions--at the end of the day s/he is working FOR YOU, and should take the time to make sure you understand what's going on before moving on to the next nervous parents.

Good luck!

the way that my doctor answered me was to tell me that all peoples bellies are different, and that when I was 36 weeks I was measuring 43. He went on to tell me that the measurement of the belly was not always gonna be consistent with the number of weeks u are. And could quite possibly be having a bigger baby!

they have to do ultrasounds to watch the weight and what not if the baby is measuring with the size you might have the baby early. they have to watch the fluid and what not i would have to say not to worry you might get your bundle of joy sooner then you thought.
