Ultimately my aim is to study Medicine, but I am probably going to do Biomedical Sciences at University first, and then try and get onto a post-grad Medicine course.

But what if I change my mind, or don't get into Medicine at all? Are there any Biosciences graduates here? What do you do now?

There are a lot of different things you can into with a science degree. I did Biochemistry and eventually settled on the idea of doing research (I'm now writing up my PhD). However the other people I graduated with are doing a wide variety of things such as teaching, working in the pharmaceutical industry and a whole range of different office based jobs.

If it is what you want to do go for it, there are still loads of options out there if you later change your mind.

My cousins are both bio-med graduates - one is a bio-medical scientist at a big hospital - he graduated early on and is following a masters in biomedical sciences - the other one - she has a 2:1 and graduated in 2006 - cant find a job in the NHS - they are cutting down job opportunities in the NHS - so you need to really think it through - medical work opportunities are getting more and more scarce in the UK.

I'm ex-BMS. Suggest that you focus fully on your ultimate aim for which you will need to get into medical school. It is possible to intercalate a year at med school sometimes without threat to your main aim.
I don't think it's at all easy or even possible these days to train for
years to qualify in BMS then train for many more years to qualify in medicine.
Med school admissions officers notice things! And remember the cost.

Why not go the MD/PhD route? It takes about the same amount of time as a PhD (seriously), and maybe easier to get in (don't know about that for sure though).

I have a PhD in BMS and do research at a major cancer hospital.
