I was forced by Katrina to go to another type of work, because the job market is terrible where I live I took a job doing something I did before college. They have management positions and I thought by waiting and being patient and showing how valuable I am, they would give me raises. We are supposed to get a 90 day review which was done 8 months late, and 3 weeks later, no raise....Got a job offer on my way after this, more stress, but more money???

This is not to get anyone else to make a decision for me, it is just that people whom I would discuss this with have personal reasons for me to make certain decisions, and don't feel I could get a neutral answer. I am just bouncing an idea.
I am actively seeking new employment and feel impowered now-again. Thanks... : - )

The way the world is going now, I can even allow myself to stress out over happy things, LOL, such as birthday parties. We didn't used to have the kind of stress that is around now-a-days and maybe someday it will go away again but, for now, stress is like a bag of rocks around our necks, weighing us down.
I always tell my kids (25,28,29), when they ask my opinion on new job offers, to take a job that has health insurance and other benefits. I say to you, take a chance on this new job offer because we must always try to move forward and better our lives even if we think we can not do it or it will be too hard and we fail. We must always keep moving forward as nothing stays the same even if we feel safe where we are, it won't stay that way. We must have courage to act on the opportunities that God lays before us. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and He will make straight your ways. "I know the plans I have for you", says the Lord. "Plans to give you hope and a future." keep the friends you have made at the old job, and what you have learned from it, and move onward through the fog with the rest of us. Good luck.

Your grades and not falling asleep in U.S. Gov't are the priority. How long have you worked at this job ? Maybe you could talk to your supervisor and get your hours reduced or work during holidays when school is out. The money is nice, but if you are not happy then why stay ? I'm sure if you talked to your parents about it in a sensible way they would stand by you and help you make the best decision that is right for YOU. (I don't think your parents would be disappointed in you. ) Anyway, enjoy your senior year and good luck with your decision, whatever the outcome !

Oh, gosh, I have been where you are and I stayed for 26 years just to have security and be able to raise my two sons.

Now, as I look back, I think I would have done the same thing. Money is important and tends to be more and more each day, but peace of mind and personal satisfaction can't be bought.

Weigh your plus and minus points of each job, give it long and serious thought, make your decision, and go for it.....who knows what might show up next for those who wait.

Do not count on being able to get a raise from you present employer.

If you want to get into their management, you should talk to a senior manager about your desire. You have to tell them what you want-they can not read your mind.

Then tell them that you have another offer that you will take because of the opportunity but that you really like where you are (if they can get you promoted).

If they do not answer your questions, take the other offer.

I can tell you from experience that a better salary will NOT make you happier. That said, it depends really on what your needs and goals are. Overall, though I would say choose what will make you happiest. Remember -- this is a place you'll HAVE to go to 30-40 hours a week (dunno what your schedule is, but you get the idea). Good luck with whatever you decide.
