The play is, on its face, about the Salem witch trials. The central character is John Proctor, a farmer who had an affair with a young woman (Abigail Williams) in the village. While his wife Elizabeth continues to be torn over whether to forgive him, Abigail and several friends are found dancing in the woods by the pastor. Frightened of being punished the girls accuse other villagers of being in league with the devil and causing the girls to dance. Soon everyone is drawn into a web of accusations and lies as the clergy try to determine 'objectively' if there is witchcraft at play.

The Crucible was written by Miller in response to the McCarthy era in the 1950s when people, including those in Hollywood, were accused, without evidence, of communist sympathies and encouraged to turn in others to save themselves.

There was a movie version (not bad) back in 1996 - http://imdb.com/title/tt0115988/

With no offense at all, you could have tried WWW/Browser/ keywords, general search.

For school it's a daunting task, and I'd not select it as a teacher or Drama staff member.

You don't state if YOU will particpate? OR be an audience member? OR be tested in the form of grading?

I can only tell you it is depressing. It retells the story of the Salem witch trials.
