I'm an anime fan and already have an opinion on this. However, I would like to find out what other people think. Do you think anime is only for kids? Do you think that no kids should ever watch anime and that it is for adults? Do you think it varies depending on the anime? etc... Thanks in advance for any answers.

I've been watching anime for over a decade now, starting when I was in my early teens. I initially liked it because of it's creativity, style, and mature content. I still like it for these same reasons.

I do think that anime is intended for all ages. However, even many of the most reserved or childish series I've seen still have a good bit of sexual undertones, and thus I do think that anime is in general aimed at an older or at least more mature audience.

With the amount of graphic violence and sexual themes in many series, a parent should definitely supervise and approve an anime for their kids. Just because it's illustrated entertainment does not mean it is not to be taken seriously. Some of the most complex, perverse, and intellectual topics I've seen has been within anime.

To say anime is "only for kids" is not giving it enough credit, but saying it is only for adults, is not acknowledging the diversity of anime.

There is also a difference between anime from Japan and anime that has been Americanized. For instance: Sailor Moon is a rather popular anime brought to the US, but in the translation they also removed the nearly constant lesbian undertones. For better or worse ....

A good number of anime are mostly intended for young adults. Ones like Naruto, Bleach, and even Sailor Moon. The thing is that when dubbed. They sometimes get toned down in order for the same age audience as well as younger viewers can watch it without being too sponged in from violence and certain sexual innuendos. Only a good rarity of animes intended for younger kids from either here or Japan are ever made. Shows like Hello Kitty, and Hamtaro are prime examples.

Most of the anime nowdays are meant for people over 14 with the exception to the kids animes like Pokemon and Digimons and stuff. I don't think anime is meant for a particular age group but they are meant for the people who watch TV. It is relevent that some animes are meant for a particular age group depending on its content (e.g. if there were blood and violence). But to sum up, anime is meant for the audiences- there's no particular age group but just people who often watch these kind of shows.

It depends. Some shows are intended for children in Japan, but if they were uncensored when they came here, they'd be for teens. Some shows like Tenchi Muyo and Love Hina have older teen/adult scenes involving baths, but those are still intended for old children/teens.
Then there's Cowboy Bebop and Inuyasha, which is for the older teen.
Then there's the VERY adult anime, but there's no big worry...

Most anime is not intended for kids like Naruto and the Dragonball series of series. But when they come into america they are edited and toned down to fit modern cartoon standards.

It depends on the anime. My older sons love it, they like Vampire Hunter D. My daughter likes Sailor Moon, Narutrio, Yugi-yho. I like to watch some of it. I think parents should know what their children watch.

I think most anime are drawn with adults in mind, the sexual content and imagery cannot be overlooked. plus the storylines are hardly what a child would think up or write about.Even Bobobo has some rather kinky material.
