Yes, it's usually legal, within reason. They have to have good reason for being there and it has to be within the terms of the lease which is likely going to state something along the lines that they can enter for maintenance. Usually they will give you 24 hours or more notice that they are coming but they don't have to. Complain to somebody who holds a position higher than the manager if this concerns you. Also, get a second deadbolt lock that can't be opened from the outside that you can secure while you're at home. If all else fails, call the police. Good luck!

I am a landlord and I am required by law to give you 24 hours written
notice to enter the apartment.
The only exception to this is if I have reason to believe that the tenant is in some sort of distress requiring help from the police or fire department I can enter to assist the tenant.
Send your landlord a written notice that he give you 24 hours notice.
Send the letter certified mail/return recipt and staple it you your copy of the letter.

Your apartment complex should NEVER enter your apartment without informing you first. Even to check a smoke detector. They should either call or send you a form letter. You can check the landlord/tenant laws in your state but I'm sure this is a fact...

No apartment manager nor the landlord can enter your apartment without giving you at least 24 hours notice. They can be charged for tresspassing in this regard. I would tell them you
know your rights and what they are doing is illegal

It depends on your state's Landlord tenant act. That law determines when and how a landlord can enter your residence. Get a safety chain for your front door.

I believe legally they are. However, I would think maybe you could try and address this issue with the landlord, tell them of your fears and maybe they could do a courtesy call. It's worth a try. Good Luck.
