Most of the Outlook Express error messages are due to problems with the internet connection, not the software on your computer.

Outlook Express should work fine with a LAN. If you can access the internet, you can access your e-mail. The problem is probably in the configuration. If you were using dial-up before, your program is probably still trying to "dial" out. Edit the configuration of OE to use the new LAN connection and disable dial-up. The rest of your e-mail account settings will remain the same. It's a simple fix.
