Patriotism is a great thing. You will find it everywhere practiced by people of all walks of life and in many countries. How that patriotism is used or portraid may, indeed, signal the last refuge of a scoundrel.

I am a left leaning moderate and I get a lump in my throat every time I hear our national anthem played. I served 3 years in the army during the Vietnam era. Yet, those who identify themselves as one of today's Conservatives would think of me as a traitor or at the least unpatriotic because I do not fall in line with rhetoric I do not agree with. You see, those folks see the world in black and white, right or wrong, my way or the highway. They can't imagine how anyone could disagree with their narrow viewpoints.

The cover themselves in the American flag and sing patriotic songs. They blindly follow poor leadership because somehow they feel it is the right thing for them to do. Maybe it is for them. Their last refuge when they find that their noble cause is falling apart and they don't want to look stupid. No one does.

In America we have a democracy. Democracy thrives on differences of ideas and opinions, on diversity. Those of whom I write don't seem to understand or have forgotten that. Without differences we might as well have a totalitarian government such as that of Saddam Hussein.

Patriotism is the last refuge of mankind. Armageddon is a 1998 disaster/science fiction film about a group of blue-collar deep-core drillers who are sent by NASA to deflect an asteroid on a collision course with Earth.

No. As long as you are not blinded by Patriotism. There is nothing wrong with loving your country (in fact, I think you should love your country - you decided to live there after all), and it's ok to admit that no country or leader is perfect, but that does not mean that you can't still be proud of your country.

First of all, the word is "scoundrel," not "scoundral."

Secondly, patriotism and politicians often have very little to do with one another, particularly in the U.S., so I'm not sure what your question really is, or if you're just trying to insult Americans.

"Patriots are not revoluntionaries trying to overthrow the government. Pariots are counter revoluntionaries trying to prevent the government from overthrowing this Constitutional Republic."

Just worry about your country's politicians, we can take care of ours and will.

There's nothing wrong with patriotism. However, there's plenty wrong with nationalism.

Always has been. Always will be.

Just look at the answers here. Cons can't do anything but accuse liberals of treason (in various forms.)

Very much so.

Nationalism conveys an emptiness in ones life. Hence the patethic and dishonest "liberal bashing".
