Originally scheduled for a December 2007 release, the film has been pushed back to a May 16, 2008[1] premiere to avoid competing against another Walden Media film, The Waterhorse.[2]
Before the release of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, the screenplay for the sequel Prince Caspian had already been written.[7] In January 2006 Ireland, C.S. Lewis' birthplace, was being scouted.[8] Production of the sequel was officially announced by Disney on February 1, 2006.[9] Production is based in England, with director Andrew Adamson casting from there,[10] and British visual effects companies The Moving Picture Company and Framestore-CFC hired,[11] to take advantage of new tax breaks.[12]
In January 2007 the crew was scouting locations in Glenorchy, New Zealand,[13] and began work on the sets in the Coromandel Peninsula.[14] At the same time, casting was going on in Burbank, California[15] and Prague.[16] Filming will begin in February 2007[4] in Auckland, before moving in April for four months in Prague at Barrandov Studios[17] and in the SoÄa region of Slovenia.[18]
