1) Warne has taken 699 wickets from 143 Test matches,
whereas Muralitharan has taken 674 wickets from
110 Test Matches.

2) Muralitharan has taken 425 wickets in one day matches
from 282 matches, whereas Warne has taken only 293
wickets from 194 matches,

there can be an argument that if murali played the same no of games as of warne then murali cross him.but we need to consider the situation where both of them are playing.
warne plays most of his games in australia where track is not spin supporting
but for murali his major paying track is very much spin supporting
considering them we must not decide who is better we must accept that both of them are extremely brilliant bowlers.

Shane warne was a real bowler, the other Murali is a thrower not a bowler so no question of greatness, if you are talking about greatest there are several others who dominated world cricket more than these two gentlemen.

Though Shane Warne holds the record for most wickets in the Test Matches as of now, I consider M.Muralitharan as the better bowler than Shane Warne due to following reasons:

1) Warne has taken 699 wickets from 143 Test matches,
whereas Muralitharan has taken 674 wickets from
110 Test Matches. If Muralitharan has also played
143 Test Matches, even if he takes one wicket in
each Test Match, he would have taken more wickets
than Warne.

2) Muralitharan has taken 425 wickets in one day matches
from 282 matches, whereas Warne has taken only 293
wickets from 194 matches, Even if Warne has played
same number of one day matches as played by
Muralitharan, he would not have even come nearer to
the total number of wickets taken by Muralitharan

3) Muralitharan has got better economy rate of 2.39 in test
matches and 3.84 in ODI as compared to 2.65 in Test
and 4.25 in ODI of Warne

If you assign a weighting towards having a legal action, then there is no question.

Conversely, if you give points for manipulating the rules, and calling any critic a "racist", and finally having the ICC drop its colllective pants and bend over, then I guess Murali wins, hands down.

Warne is classification aside and became into relatively a mythical bowler, Harbhajan falls short via thousand miles. won't be able to say a lot approximately Murali's competency as he chucks bowls. i ask your self how effectiv ehe could have been if he has authentic bowling action.
