It hasn't happened to me, but I was told to be cautious and aware of the slight possibility of a tubal pregnancy.

Are you asking because you aren't getting your period? This is a side affect (I consider it a great one!) of the Minera IUD, since it releases a small but constant amount of hormones... like a very low dose of regular birth control pills (remember it's when you aren't taking them ie the placebos in the last week that your period comes).
Because most women judge whether they are pregnant by the arrival of their period, my GYN had suggested buying an over the counter pregnancy test if I started to experience any other symptoms (beside no period).
FYI- If you have friends with other kinds of IUDs they will usually be made of copper and have the opposite reaction. A heavier period and spotting in between.

I got pregnant with an IUD in place. I was due to change it in January because it would expire this month, but got pregnant in November and found out in December. My periods were like clockwork and during the fourth year, it went from six days down to three. In December, I was two days late so I took a pregnancy test and it came up positive. If it does happen, it's not good to keep the IUD in place, but my doctor advised that there's a possibility of miscarriage if it's removed. If you think you're pregnant, it never hurts to take a pregnancy test, but make sure you go to the doctor right away if it's positive. My doctor was able to take me the day I found out because of the situation and was able to remove it. Good luck to you.
