Depends how you define affordable.

There are lot of hotels on Sherbrooke road in the down town area - walking distance to all attractions.

Some of the hotels are Omni, Best Western, Courtyard Marriott, Days Inn - the range is around 100 + taxes.

For long stay there is good place Le Village Inn close to
1980 RUE SAINTE-CATHERINE EST, MONTRÉAL, QC, Canada - (514) 524-4851. This is very reasonable and newly renovated. However the area is not great.

When I was in Montreal a couple weeks ago, I stayed at the Hotel Latin Quartier. Their website is http://www.hotel-quartierlatin.com and the rates are very reasonable. I think I paid somewhere around $45 Canadian per night. It's a nice place to stay if you need a place to sleep and shower, the rooms are a bit small but what do you expect for that price!! :)
