Yes. I think stress and a sense of well being has a lot to do with your physical health as well. We have a tendency to take on the mood around us.

I'm not sure they can give you cancer, but emotionally needy people and emotionally troubled people are black holes of need. They want you to drown in the poison and suffer with them. They will suck the very marrow from your bones. They can turn normal people in mere shells of their former selves.

Stress causes premature aging, decreased immune funtions, heart disease - you name it, stress makes you sick! Dealing with unpleasant people will make you old before your time.

Dr. Andrew Weil is a brilliant man that has books on this very thing. He is the guy for you right now. Go to the library or to a book store and take a look.

You are going to have to work at rising above, but first of all you have to realize you are worth it. You don't deserve to live in misery. Get off your butt and go to the library today.

You should also go to your local vitamin store and get some fish oil for your mood, multivites, and get some good antioxidants. You have to get your body and mind onto the right path. Start with your body and your mind will join in.

Been there, done that!!

I do believe living a life with emotionally toxic people is bad for your health.
If you are having depression for 20 years; why haven't you gotten some help by now? I don't know if it can give you cancer or not. Seems like in 20 years you should have consulted with a doctor for some kind of help.

You need to get your immune system checked out.
I don't know how you've stood living like this for so long without seeking help. Do you like to beat yourself up?
Get some help. Please.

It's very unlikely. Stress can weaken your immune system and cause you to catch colds and flu, but cancer is not like a simple virus. Most doctors would not make a link between these two as they are totally unrelated. The people you describe though are not helpful for your mental health.

Of course it's bad for you. It's catching, didn't you know that? Being with toxic people makes YOU toxic, too. Maybe not in the exact same way, but you'll start feeling down, depressed, angry, negative......my question is....WHY is this person staying in this horrible relationship??? If they don't get out, they are to blame for their crappy life-----not the toxic person. You can't just sit there and feel sorry for yourself and STAY. Good grief. If you CHOOSE to stay, then you have decided you LIKE being in that toxic relationship. And no one can help you.

No, that is NOT a cause of cancer.

I don't think it could lead to cancer. However you may suffer from extreme depression yourself and even have some emotional or psychological stress. Need to speak to a doctor or join a club where you can get new friends and find love. In all situations, remember that you are God's child and he loves you more. Try joining a christian group as well.

Absolutley!!!! I am living proof of that.I have lived in the flight or fight syndrome with 2 marriages and now I have multiple autoimmune illnesses and suffer from extreme anxiety which is unrelenting.I also have back and knee problems Yes i do believe firmly that stress will kill you.If I had to do my life over again I would worry way more about myself than putting everybody before me cause now I pay for it every minute of everyday, and trust me it wasnt worth it.

Being around depressing people might impact your life by making you not as happy. But wouldn't give you cancer. Doctors don't get cancer or other sickness working at hospitals.

But if you feel your mood is changing from being around these people, make new friends.

There is no proof that it is a cause for cancer - but there IS scientific proof that stress and depression put a strain on your immune system, leaving you more vulnerable to a wide variety of illnesses.

Sure. We westerners tend to catagorize different aspects of our being by putting them in different areas. In our minds we may put our physical bodies in area, mental in another and our souls in another. Sometimes we forget they all affect each other.

We are all toxic at some level and all need to work on our own issues but most of us aren't willing to do so until NOT getting help gets worse than getting help & dealing with the pain within.
