i know there has to be some kind of security with that(..just having to push a button to start the car makes it too easy for someone to steal it.) how does it work?

Usually the "push button" that automatically starts cars is located on your keychain where the unlock buttons are and everything else. I also think it that it only starts from a certain radius. You cant start it if youre like 100 feet away, more like 20. So its really not that easy to steal unless someone steals your keys. You have to use the actual key to make it drive.

You still need the key, or the button will not work. Push a button, turn a key, its all the same. Its a gimmick.

If you're refering to remote start, you must put the key in before shifting out of park. Otherwise, the engine will shut down. Remote start is illegal in vehicles with standard transmission.

These cars are electric which run on batteries (usually four of them)

You still need a key (it's square) to put in the ignition.

I'm pretty sure you can't start them without it.

Are you talking about cars like a Prius? (sp?)

I'm not sure, but I'm sure you have to have a keypad to unlock the car.
