I would like to get a fishtank and a cool, aggressive, fish. i don't have a lot of room in my dorm, an i'm not loaded w/ money so at best i could probably do a 55 gallon tank. is there anyway that i could possibly fit a freshwater barracuda in it. if that wont work what are some other cool fish of that sort. i was also thinking about piranas, freshwater puffers, maybe even a freshwater stingray. still i think i would best prefer the barracuda, but size is an issue.

What you want is a pike cichlid. There are different species that get different size, but a two spot pike would be a good choice for a 30-55 gallon tank.

These guys are torpedo shaped eating and killing machines! They grow fast, are easy to maintain and tough as nails. They strike feeder goldfish so hard and fast the feeder just disappears in a cloud of scales. Very cool fish with a very bad*** attitude. Here's a link with some more info about them and some pics.

Oscars are also cool fish, but might outgrow even a 55 gallon. The pike cichlids stay a bit smaller and would be at home in a 30 gallon. Remember, only one per tank!

A 55 gallon tank will allow you around 50 inches of full grown fish after displacement has been considered.
A Freshwater Barracuda, or Hujeta, can grow to around 30 ins but in a tank will often be much smaller than that so its possible to have just 1 in the tank.

Oscars are common but very cool aggressive freshwater fish. They tend to have personalities and are not shy like barracuda and peranah tend to be. they'll gladly eat live fish, attack rocks in the tank, tear up plants, jump for food and get excied when they see you come in to a room in hopes they'll be fed.
