Saw the film when it came out but just got round to reading the book. It is wonderful, descriptions of the countryside in Carolina make me want to visit there . All the descriptions of nature, farming etc are what is missing from the film. I couldn't put it down, loved it.

I haven't seen the film - I can't stand Renee Zellweger - but I LOVED the book. I've recommended to all my friends. You're spot on - the descriptions are brilliant. I won't watch the film at all now, just in case it's not as good as the book!

I watched the movie and thought it was beautiful and then I thought the book would be even better. I started reading it and it was metaphors stacked upon each other, it took me two hours TWO HOURS to get to the second chapter. After half of the second chapter I realise I will not possibly last to the end of the book and put it down. It was a terrible, boring book, that never got to the point. I don't want to criticise your reading - we all have unique tastes and I understand you, because there is a certain beauty in the book. But I didn't feel it.

I thought it was one of the most boring books I have ever read. All description and no action. I don't insist that all books/stories/movies have happy endings, but SPOILER ALERT*** to have the guy die after such a trek was just too much. I thought it was done as an emotional heartwrench to make you remember the book more than it fit the tone of the rest of the story.

I loved it too,it's not the easiest read but it certainly had me fascinated. I haven't seen the film, I was worried it might be a bit flat after reading the book.

Too many tree species in it - typical of Americans who want to do Fine Writing. It was also a bit too reverent to me - I wanted a bit of raping and murdering at the end.

No..it is very engaging..and then the end is such a damp squib...

I'm afraid I put the book down thinking .."what a waste of time". It had no resolution.
