The pill I use works straight away, but you aren't advised to have unprotected intercourse for 72 hours, that way it has time to work. Usually most any pills take 24-36 hours to get into your system. I hope this helps you out.

Well when you start taking the pill for the first time you are supposed to take the first one on the first day of your period. And it is supposed to start working straight away. Although it doesn't sound you took it on the first day of your period if you had sex shortly after taking it. Unless you are someone that has sex on your period, which is perfectly normal. And if this is the case and it is the first day of your period then it would be unlikely that you would become pregnant although it can happen!

It all depends when you took the pill (when in your cycle) and if this is the first time you have taken the pill. If you missed a few and then started taking them again, they do not work properly until you have been taking them for 7 days again.

Well it works right away if you use it with in 72 hours of UN protected sex. But you just need to learn to use a condom because it is less effective than birth control. I think it is something like 88% effective. I got pregnant on birth control so trust me it can happen. Although I was married when that happened. Any way hope this helps!

if its the combined contraceptive pill its reccomended waiting a month before unprotected sex.

For the emergency contraceptive you can take it up to 72 hours after unprotected sex.

Dependant upon the type of pill you are taking, if it is the combined pill, (progesterone and oestrogen) you start it on the first day of your period and after one week are fully protected.
With the mini pill (progesterone only) you take it on the first day of your period and are protected immediately.
