One of the side effects of the injection is weight gain.

The injection contains progesterone, which is basically what the mini-pill contains, and some combined pills.

If the pill doesn't agree with you, I would not advise the injection as once you have had it, it can take upto 12 months to be rid of the effects.

I have always been a steady size 10 until I went on the injection 2 years ago, then very quickly within 6 months put on a stone. Since I have stopped it, I went back down to what I had always been. I also bled non-stop for 6 months on it.

Why doesn't the pill agree with you? I think you need to discuss your options with a GP. There may be other options available to you. How many pills have you tried. There are so many different ones available my advice to you would be to go to the GP and try other ones. It takes 6 months for a person to feel the benefit of a pill.

Take care and see the GP. All the best.

There is no way to tell the side effects of one person....

I was on the shot for 3 years without any problem. No weight gain or anything. Unfortuately I had to be taken off of it due to the bone growth warnings. My doctor told me that I (or anyone else) should not be on Depo-Provera for more than 3 years. But some woman, I hear many, have extreme side effects...

I started the pill 4 months ago... and ironicly I have gained 20 lbs which I am not too happy about. I also forget to take them MANY TIMES. Because Depo has not weared off in my system yet (it can take up to a little over a year), I surely would be pregnant by now. So I am planning getting back on depo, or other forms of birthcontrol soon...

The choice is all up to you. You have many options... Patches, Rings, Pills, Implants....My doctor gave me a pro-con sheet for every birthcontrol method out there. You can ask for one and talk to her about it and make your decision.

Depo has very very nasty side effects so please do more research before you decide to try this. Have you considered a diaphragm or the nuva ring or even an over the counter product like a female condom, female vaginal contraceptive film or the suppositories or the today sponge. I would discuss this more thoroughly with your doc after researching the depo shot before you decide on a birth control method. Also you didn't mention how many different types of birth control pills you have tried either. Last but not least if the pill didn't agree with you I would be leary about injecting hormones into my body if the oral form didn't agree with you.

just to let you know that i am on the pill and it is the best contaception that i have used. there are many different kinds of pills that suit the individual so ask your doctor.
i was on the injection about 4/5 years ago and i went from being a size 8/10 to a size 14 nearly pushing a 16!!!! so you can see that i would not really recommend it if that is the reason why you dont want to go on it.

I would never ever recommend the depo provera shot to anyone.

I was on it for four years.

I had weight gain, horrible mood swings, NO sex drive, and spotting at the weirdest times.

After five years you need a bone density check since the depo seriously screws with your bone health.

Check this site for more reviews on various birth control.

For those having trouble with remembering to take the pills, if you have a calendar option on your cell phone set a daily event for, say, 12noon (or whenever you take your pills) and when it goes off you take your pill. I am horrid for forgetting the pill, which is why I went off it a long time ago, but now with my calendar on my phone (or your alarm clock on your phone) I haven't forgotten it at all.

I was on the shot for two years.... It worked great for me, i got on it right after my first on only child was born. I didnt gain any wieght with it even though my doctor told me many people gain weight while on it, but i didnt. Only thing i hated about it is that it also causes acne..... And it made me break out awful! So i just switched to the pill.... But the shots side effects are different for everyone

i had the injection and implant, both i had viloent mood swings, weight gain etc. plus my friend had injection and she got cysts because of it. try contraception patches. they are similar to the pill. u change it once a week and it can go anywhere on body.more effective then the pill as the hormone goes straight into the blood stream rather then through the stomache.
go speak to a family planning clinic.
