Let's not think about more important stuff like their character, their ability to coach well without resorting to fear and vulgarity, etc.

Nope, let's not think about that old-fashioned stuff.

It's strange but the only people I hear making that exact statement over and over again are African Americans. If anyone is making an issue of it, it's you. It's not an issue with me and never has been. I've been a Tony Dungy fan for a very long time. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Tampa Bay's SB win was because it was Dungy's team, not "Chuckie's".

The "stigma" as you call it, is only in the minds of racists and bigots. Fortunately they make up a very small percentage of the population. You need to move on. Dungy and Smith are excellent coaches.............period!

If this stigma existed before last night's game, then both coaches in the game would have been white. But I do agree that it has been a long time in coming. The owners never would have hired these coaches if they didn't think they could do the job. Perhaps this will create more opportunities.

A good football coaah is a good football coach regardless of their skin color. I really don't believe a guy should be hired just because he is black and certainly he shouldn't be looked over either because he is. I don't even like the term African American as we are all just people from many different heritages. I think that Tony Dungy is a class act and a great coach,

I have known for years that someday Tony Dungy would win the
Super Bowl. Not because he is African-American. Not because he is a good football coach. It's because he is just a super, terrific human being. The fact that he is African American makes it better. The fact that the man he coached against in the game is also African-American and Tony got him his start in coaching is also great. I loved the game and I love that fact that it was such a classy one. That's respect!

I really think this was a more important issue to African-Americans than to anyone else. I could care less if Tony Dungy is black, white, blue or purple with pink dots. The bottom line is he won. The Colts didn't hire him because he's black. They hired him because he was the best candidate to get the Colts a Lombardi trophy, and he did.

I think it's far more important (And Dungy said this in his trophy acceptance speech) that he and Lovie Smith are Christian coaches.

There have been great coaches in the NFL before who just so happened to be black. I think all the people who would rather focus on race than the fact that two great coaches made it to the Superbowl are racists themselves.

not true, there have been plenty of african-american coaches in the nfl who can coach, these are just the first 2 to make it to the superbowl.

I don't recall anyone saying they couldn't coach football. The Colts coach currently has the highest winning ratio of any coach in the NFL right now. I think in the world of football, its all about the results. Whether its coaches, quarterbacks, or defensive coordinators, it's all about money, and winning equals money.

i dont know why people want to bring race into it.who cares if u are black or white.it does not matter what color u are in order to coach a football team.
that is one of the first things dungy said was about being black and winning,he said it is great for our country.well my opinion is that it is horsecrap.i guess he just wants people to feel good for him because he is black.no white coach would have said that, and if he did he would be considered racist.
anyway i am not a racist.i just dont think that race has anything to do with coaching a ball club.

No. Tony Dungy is a football coach, not a black football coach.

Besides his achievement is cheapened because hen beat just a black guy.:)

What do you expect, racism will now end?
