most likely cause is stripped gears inside the case. unplug the unit and remove the steel cover, you will need a 1/4" nutdrive or socket. if you see white shavings laying in the case, your gear has stripped. it's a very poor design and that's a common result. gear replacement kits are available from most garage door companies. the cost is usually around $50 or so depending on your location. while you are at it, service the door. most service calls i see with stripped gears are caused by a poorly functioning door. these openers just can't handle the strain.

check the rubber seal at the bottom of the garage door. sometimes that gets wet, and it freezes, essentially gluing the door to the ground. if that doesnt work, try putting a space heater in the garage for half an hour. that would warm up the motor, the grease, the chain, and the door. if that doesnt work, then you may have a mechanical problem with the garage door opener.

try adjusting the close or open travel limiter there should be adjusting screws on the motor case. . my opener did the same thing. if you want to just get the door closed pull the trolley latch(rope with handle on it)
