Okay, I will be 14 on July 3rd. I am sick of not having money and not being independent and not having the money to get that really cute shirt I want at the mall. lol. I live in Ohio so 14 year olds can get a job permit but the hours they are allowed to work are very limited.
1. How do I get my job permit?
2. What kind of jobs will hire me? And how will I get them to hire me as a 14 year old?
*Include anything I need to know to get a part-time job starting in probably August or September.
Thanks♥

How do I get my job permit?
You don't need one. You only need your parent's permission.

What kind of jobs will hire me?
As one poster already mentioned, there's babysitting.
Offer to do different jobs around the house to earn money. Or offer that same service to your neighbors.
Apply as a stocker or grocery bagger in a grocery store.
Place a nicely printed flyer on your neighbor's doors to offer to walk their dogs. You can potentially make good money from that.

And how will I get them to hire me as a 14 year old?
Your mature and responsible attitude will get you hired because they'll find it hard to believe you're only 14.

During an interview, try not to say "uh", "um", or "like", too much. I got my first job at 14 because I sounded adult. I was told that I sounded like the people who report the news. Very professional. That was the advice my mom gave me and it worked. That, and smile and "fake" confidence if you have to.

Dress for the job. If you're applying for a job where the employees wear jeans, then wear your nicest jeans. If the job you're applying for is a little dressier, then wear your nicest slacks.

When filling out an employment application, double-check your spelling. Some employers will toss and application in the trash for miss-spelled words.

Don't omit anything on the application. If there is something on there that doesn't apply to you, just put "n/a" in that spot. Leave out the quotes. Just so you'll know, n/a means "not applicable".

Check over your application carefully before handing it in to make sure everything is neat and correct.

P.S. I forgot the most important thing of all. Get a mentor. Tell everyone that you're looking for a job. This will increase your chances of getting one. A mentor is simply someone who is willing to help you along the way with advice, moral support, and job leads. Good luck!

My stepdaughter is 14 and had to get a work permit. She got her's at her highschool. She works at a fast food resturaunt. She mainly works weekends. And can only work no later than 7pm. During the school year she is only allowed to work a certain number of hours per day on a school day. I think it's like 2 or three hours. In the summer, she can work full time as long as she doesn't work past 7pm. You also need your parent's permission. You will only know if a place will hire you only after you fill out an application. Ask your parent's to help you get the permit.

I worked at the local library at 14. I am from Indiana, so I don't know the specifics about getting a permit in Ohio, but the library may be a good place to look.

Try babysitting. The only limit to your hours is what your parents set. Hang a flyer in some local stores, the library and daycares. You get paid in cash, so you don't have to pay taxes. If you don't charge as much as other babysitters, you'll probably get more jobs.

You do not need a permit, and can work whatever hours you want as a Babysitter.
Just get references from your school teachers, mom, dad, etc..
