We are a young couple moving to Dallas shortly for business. I have an office in Midlothian, TX and my realtor has advised Mansfield, TX to search for homes. We would like to be close to shopping, restaurants and bars. Is this a good place to be?

Mansfield is a great place to be if you are going to be doing business out that way. It is right next to Arlington and just up the highway from DFW airport. You will also be close to Ameriquest Field if you are a baseball fan and the new Cowboys stadium in a few years. It is relatively easy to get anywhere in the metroplex from Mansfield via i-20, i-30, or 360 (one of them will have a wreck at all times, so use the others lol). I live just west of DFW in the Euless. I like it there a lot, but would be a tough commute to Midlothian. I wouldn't live in Arlington, to difficult to find a good neighborhood, and Mansfield has 10x better schools (if you have kids).

If you office in Midlothian then you have no choice BUT Mansfield/Arlington. Fortunately for you the area is rapidly growing. It is well on it's way to being the hub for the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex. You will have new restaurants, shopping malls, bars, etc. Hopefully you're not moving from a large metropolitan area/city. If your office is in the town of Midlothian I suspect this isn't the case.

Midlothian is south of Dallas about 30 miles...If you want to be close to shopping I would say that Mansfield is a good place..
It is very easy to get a cheaper rental there...since about 3 years ago that area was booming..I would recommend to rent a home for a while until you decide for yourself on where you would like to settle down...there is nothing worse than buying a house in an area that you are not familiar with and now you cannot sell your home, because no one wants to live there either..Sometimes it is cheaper to rent a home than an apartment in the Dallas Area..Mansfield has plenty of developments...the competition there is fierce,so you will get a good deal on your home..
The downside of Mansfield...the traffic is horrible!

Welcome to Dallas!

oh lucky! midlothian is beautiful, except for that eyesore cement factory, nice houses w/ big lots, good neighborhoods, (don't live in red oak, the area may look nice but there are gangs of local kids who put poop in random mailboxes and try to break into peoples' cars, extreme vandals!) as for bars and nightlife you are moving to boredsville, the only real nightlife to speak of is in dallas or arlington but youre not too far of a drive, you'd be closer to arlington if you lived in mansfield and closer to dallas if you lived in cedar hill, ovilla is a small but ok town, lancaster is horrible, um thats about it, i hope that helps

Live close to where you work because traffic can get pretty bad on the expressways. There are good areas even in downtown and bad areas even in Plano.

It all depends if you want to rent or buy and how much you can afford.

The suburbs are always a good bet though in Dallas. Generally the housing is affordable and the drive is reasonable.

It all depends on where you are working.
Mansfield is a great place to live lots of shopping a Movie theater and more coming everyday!
As a young couple if you are planning on having children Mansfield has top rated schools as well.
Good luck!

Don't know where Midlothian is. If you will be near Northeastern Dallas, try going out to Rockwall. It's beautiful out there. Of course, it's a commute.
