Can someone please explain to me what suzuki acting classes are? I discovered an ad in a local paper about suzuki acting classes. The instructors are supposedly going to teach the classes "dojo-style". What does this mean. How does this style differ from regular acting classes. Do you think I'd learn a lot or benefit in any way from taking these classes? Please explain. Thanks!

I have studied Suzuki under one of Tadashi Suzuki's own students, and it is a fantastic technique to work both your body and your mind. I know it sounds so cliche to say 'it will improve your focus and strength' but it really really does. If you have trouble with volume or strong emotions onstage, or even if you don't, Suzuki training is one of the most unique and powerful approaches to acting you will find, and it is not easy.

Also, it is a GREAT abs work out!

Where are you taking it? There aren't a lot of real Suzuki instructors out there. Let me know how it goes! You should definitely do it!

I agree 100% with your other respondent. I studied Suzuki several years ago, and even had the opportunity to take some classes with the Master himself. He's a certifiable loony, by the way.

To an outsider, Suzuki classes probably look like some twisted form of martial arts. A lot of the moves are sharp and percussive. For many of my fellow students, it was difficult to see at first how this training regimen related to what ACTORS do. But (as you've already heard), it didn't take long for us to notice how much STRONGER we were all getting. Strong, and intensely FOCUSED. There is great power in Suzuki's method.

One of his students said to us: "We need CONCENTRATION, wide and deep." That's pretty much what it's about.

If you have an opportunity, you owe it to yourself to check it out. It'll blow your mind.
