Do you think parenting should be strict, just like in the Gaye household? Or do you think he was being a tad controlling over his 30 year old boy? Would this country be better if parents just shot their unruly kids?

Err I don't think Mr.Gaye Snr. shot his son because he was an addict. I think they had had an argument (Mr. Gaye Snr. I think died shortly after of a brain tumour so was very likely mentally impaired).

I know the questioner was not "serious". That said, this case is a pretty good example of why guns lying around the house are not generally a good idea!

Any parent who resorts to physical violence of any sort on their kids has failed as a parent. Kids are seriously frustrating a lot of the time! That's the deal!

Marvin Gaye was born in 1939. He sure wasn't thirty when his dad shot him. Dirty, yes. Thirty, no. He was one day short of 45.

Yes, parents are the cause of most of the problems in the world. On many occasions, they put themselves ahead of their children. They teach their children to make decisions based on emotional feelings rather than logic and common sense. They actually tell their children what/who to hate/love instead of allowing the child to discover thier own feelings towards things/others. I don't think they should (have to) beat them, though (lol) or kill them. Education is the key to a harmonic society.
With education comes understanding.
With understanding comes empathy.
With empathy comes compassion.
With compassion comes selflessness.
With selflessness comes people who don't need help, helping those who do need help.
Most people are very very tardy though. I don't have much faith in them.

Don't think the Dad was setting a good example for his son by discharging a firearm in the house.
However he sort of solved the problem of his son learning from his bad habits by blowing Marvin's brains out all over the sideboard!

I think we should be more strict than parents generally are these days, but have to go the right way about it, you have to be loving, caring and supportive but also so they know whats right and wrong in life by making them know the consequences of criminal and drug related lives.

If all parents faced up to their responsibilities, duties and obligations in an appropriate way, their kids wouldn't be so unruly, thereby negating the cowardly desire to shoot them!
