First off, not to be rude, but Norton 2006 is an Anti-Virus, and not an Anti-Spyware....to be honest, I find that Norton, McAfee, and all those other paid A/V programs suck.....on my computer (which stays on 24/7), I use the free version of AVG AntiVirus (anti-virus), and Windows Defender (anti-spyware), and have never had an infection get into my system. To get AVG, go to www.download.com and type AVG into the search field, and then scroll down and choose the FREE one (NOT the professional).....to get Windows Defender, you need to have Windows XP with SP2 installed - if so, go to www.microsoft.com, type "defender" into the search, click on "Windows Defender Home" and then follow the links to download/install the application......remember to RUN each of these programs so that they'll actually install..

spyware is not viruses that's why. You need an antispyware program like spybot or adaware.
There are TONS of viruses that pass by AVG but get blocked by Norton. I am 100% safe with norton and have been since '97, that's ten years gone by with no viruses. You have to set it up properly and update it every dAY..
you can get adaware for free here as part of the pack, I just did it myself, good luck.

NONE. Norton will install at least 10 services + keep reminding you how well it's doing so you buy next years product.

Stick with avg virus + run spybot and adaware (both free) once a week or when the computer seems to suddenly get sluggish. And don't ignore the power of XPs restore function to purge demons.

The free AVG spyware is the best, as many have mentioned to you. You can download it for free and also read up on some interesting articles & get great tips about spyware/adware. http://spyware.dugancom.com/

Norton has always sucked and anyone that has knowlege in the IT feild will tell you that same.

Rockinpac is right... You should use more then one Anti Spyware program. Sometimes one will pick up what the other missed....

But becareful that you don't use more then one Anti Virus software at a time.

AVG is a very good antivirus and Ad-Aware and Spybot are very good spyware tools.

I have found norton to be somewhat annoying although it's protecting my PC.

My husband and I used to use McAfee for Antivirus and we actually switched over to a free one called Avast and it's been amazing! We also use a free spyware/adware program, Spyware Terminator and AdAware, that have been really good and all three programs are easy to use. You can find the direct links to these below, as well as our website (you can show your appreciation for our help by visiting and feel free to let us know what you think of our site!).

Hope this helped and good luck!

Well I personally use AVG, but antiviruses such as Norton, have much better tech-support and longer shelf-life, AVG might one day decide to charge too for its basic service, it's just a matter of how long the can continue running operations without that source of income. But in my opinion, its not really necesarry to pay for proctection, nor it should be necesarry.
