Don't be fooled. McCain's voting record is the second most conservative in the Senate. Aside from a few visible key social issues that you mentioned he is as conservative as they come. He just isn't the kind of neocon social conservative freak that people like Dobson like.

In November a whole bunch of them were rightly (no pun intended) and soundly kicked out of office in Pennsylvania, Virginia and Florida.
