I've watched Silent Hill about twice and i haven't got its final. At the beggining of it Appears a girl trying to jump off a "Hill" she seems to be disturbed by some unknown reason, which such situation takes her mother to take the litle girl to a town named Silent Hill Where weird things happen.
(Well i think i've told too much about the film already Lets skip some parts and reach to the final which is the part that i haven't understood).
At the final "dark Alessa" gets a huge influence over "burned Alessa" the one who was burnt like a witch by the evil folks of Silent Hill. So dark Alessa possess Rose's body taking Alessa to Church where she opens the "Path" to burned Alessa to have her Revenge, She wipes everyone out Less Rose and her daughter.
They go home and when she's driving her daughter Home there's a mist covering all the road, but when she calls her husband to tell him they are coming back in her husband world there isn't mist or ashes falling down.

So I have the feeling that she's in a Outworld like it was an unearthly dimension. So that's my Question why she can't go home and get in our World ? what happened to Dark Alessa and Harmed (Burned Alessa) ??? I hope you Help me .............

Rose and Alessa's souls were forever trapped in the alternate world of Silent Hill. Yes, they both died. And they're now the ones trapped in Limbo. Dark Alessa got her revenge. She, together with the people of Silent Hill, got out of their Limbo and are now condemend in hell. Just as Dark Alessa had unfinished business from the beginning of the story, it's now Rose who's in Limbo and has unfinished business, and that is, to get back to her husband. Which is a good lead for a sequel.
As far as I'm concerned, the movie is very good, and is very faithful to the themes of the Silent Hill games. The way the plot unfolds and the mystery behind it, they're just great. It's very creepy and I again if you loved the games, you should love the movie.

They are dead at the end!
Watch closely, you will see the car tyre tracks head straight over the edge of a cliff, from when they first got out of the car at Silent Hill.
The car crashed, they died, whatever happens in between was in another world, or a dream or whatever.
So when they return home at the end they are ghosts, thats why no one can hear them

The trick of the movie is that they were all already dead the whole time. The mother and daughter died in the car crash and the cop wrecked her bike chasing them and died too. They were caught in "Purgatory"/ "Limbo". At least that's what my boyfriend and i got out of it,anyway, kind of a "Sixth Sense"-type thing. There's supposed to be a sequel,though, that follows the strory from the husband's POV, which may clear everything up a bit...or make it even more confusing:P. But i'm pretty sure they were already dead.

The way that I understood it was that the only way they had seen the inhabitants of silent hill was because they were dead, just like those that had died in Silent Hill and that is why when they return home they can not see Sean Bean and he can not see them. That was my understanding anyway.

Ive only seen it once but i think its cos they don't actually re enter the husbands world if you know what i mean, hence the last bit in the house and why its grey instead of colour etc etc....
Basically watch this space for silent hill 2....

This movie annoyed me for ages after watching it,i hate it when you're left wondering what the feck happened after.I guessed that they'd both died and were left in a kind of limbo.I guessed the other one was realeased from her limbo as she'd avenged all the people who had hurt her in her life....dunno really

They are dead. They died in in the crash near the beginning. They are ghosts at the end. Evil spirits of the people who died at Silent Hill were trying to take them to Hell.

Not sure really-to be honest we were too busy perving at the cute cop to pay attention to the why's and hows!! I think they were trapped in the other dimension still weren't they?

i have watched iand i thought it was crap, the dark alessa had killed the mother and real alessa in xchange to get vengeance on the woman who tortured her and her mother many yrs back lol very boring i know
