It's very different, with different scripts, and is also a lot funnier.

they are similar, but very different.
The UK Office has a far more "bleak" outlook than the US office, in terms of the characters and their position in life. The characters are stuck in their office environment. Most of the characters should be doing something more with their lives, so it can be depressing to see them stuck in a rut, and stuck at a dead end job.
The US version is much more light-hearted, but a little less realistic than the UK version.
Truth be told, I didn't like the US version at first (having seen the UK version first and not being impressed by the 1st season of the US version), but fell in love with the US version when I got the season 2 DVD. they're very different shows, but both are very good. I couldn't tell you which is better, as they're too different and almost seperate shows in my mind.

Now, see, I found the British one funnier...maybe it is because it was the one I saw first on PBS a few years ago...It is culturally different and the guy on the American version (40 Year Old Virgin guy) well, I just find him kind of asinine...

It's very close to the same, but I'm in the U.S. and don't find the BBC version (the original) as funny as the U.S. version.
