I wouldn't recommend it. You are running the risk of addiction, and eventually you won't be able to sleep without your Benadryl.
You should see your doctor who could prescribe a mild, non-habit forming sedative to help you get to sleep.

If your having problems sleeping, you should go see your doctor so he can prescribe you with actual sleeping pills. You shouldn't be using medicines like Benadryl simply to help you sleep. Benadryl should only be used for cold & flus or allergies. Also, I'm not sure what the correct dosage is, but 3 or 4 caps seems like a lot. More then the max. recommended dosage.

Go see your doctor. Taking medicine you don't need to be taking isn't good.

No, no no. That is WAY too much. If 25-50 mgs. (1-2 pills) isn't working, then it's not going to work for you and you need to talk to your doctor. Taking more Benedryl than directed will have the OPPOSITE effect on you and make you hyper. Then you might take more, get more hyper and so on. 2 is the limit. Ask your doctor about Trazadone. It's an antidepressant that isn't used as an antidepressant (took way to much to get to therapeutic levels) but in very low doses, it is a great sleeping pill that is not addictive at all. 50-100 mgs. is the best dose.

By the way....you CAN'T get addicted to Benedryl. It's just an antihistamine. But you can OD on it and cause heart problems.

it is possible to become dependent on benadryl and you're tolerance will only get higher and higher.

if you're having trouble sleeping..

First, i would look at things in your life the would be a major stressor or stressors and find ways to eliminate those things or cope with in differnet ways.

second, i would try a natural product, which would not have an effect on your liver and will not cause you to be groggy, the next morning.

you can try products with Valerian root, passionflower, or california poppy.

Gaia Herbs makes a product called sound sleep, i would go to a local health food store and pick some up!
good luck and i hope you can get some good sleep back!

You should never take more than 2 capsules of Benadryl. You are abusing the med and need to talk to your doctor about your sleeping problems. Do not keep overdosing on Bendadryl as this is not good. See your doc for help.

The more you take it to get to sleep, the more you'll need it to fall asleep. It's a vicious cycle.
