Yesterday my mom sprained her foot...or so we thought. This morning it is swollen on both sides and even though she is not walking on it her foot is sending sharp pains up all through her leg. And she is also feeling very dizzy and like she is going to throw up. I'm not sure if thats a symptom of a broken foot or not....so could somebody please tell me if her foot sounds broken. Also how we could get the swelling to go down. Thankyou

It could be a very bad sprain, they can actually be more painful than a break, or it could be broken. They only way to find out is to get her to an accident dept for an X ray. Cold compresses will help the swelling, keep the foot up and she should not weight bear on it until its looked at by a doctor.

It could be broken or it could be a bad sprain. The pain can cause nausea and dizziness. Take her to the ER. The foot needs to be x-rayed now. If it's broken and not taken care of, it could heal wrong and cause her a lot of trouble. They can also tell if the nausea and dizziness are from the foot. Wrap the foot in ice and keep it elevated until you get her to the ER.

I badly sprained my wrist about 7 years ago...it swelled up huge when I did it. Best thing is regardless of whether it is thought to be sprained or broken is to get to the ER. My aunt once broke a bone in her foot and it was not discovered for more than a year, so by that point, surgery was necessary.

Yeah, Nausea is usually a sign of broken bones. I tried not to go to the hospital once and ended up doing myself more damage, so you probably should go. The swelling should go down if you keep ice on it and keep it elevated, but if it is broken (which it sounds like) the pain won't go away. You could wait for the swelling to go down some though, because that will interfere with xrays.

Make your mom lay on the sofa and put the swollen foot on the edge of the sofa, wrap her foot in ice (ice bottle, frozen peas etc.)
Keep it on foot for 20 min.
Make her take motrin, then get a magnet off fridge and put where she hurts to circulate the pain away.
If swelling dont go down, it is broken, she will need an x-ray

The only way to know if it is broken is to go to the Hospital where thy will take pictures to her bond, i dont remember how that is called, but the same think happend to me and it look just like the description you heve on your question, my cas dack blue and my muscule almosr rip apart wich is called 2nd dirgree laseration, 3rd digree laseration is when the muscule is totaly rip out.

What she needs to do is to have her leg up in the air AT ALL TIMES 24/7 untill the inflamation lowers in all areas, and aply with a rag hot and cold wather , as cold as posible and as hot as posible too, is shut las at leas 15 minutes with cold and another 15 with the hot wather.

But first go to the hospital or a wolk it clinick to chek if it is broken, because if it is the circunstances change and she will need a diferent treatment.

Does it matter if it's broken? If she's in that much pain go to the doctor. A serious sprain should be checked by a doctor if that much pain is involved.

i have broken many bones so to get swelling down you put ice all over where it has swelled. if the foot looks way bigger than the other than take her to the hospital to get it x-rayed.
