my daughter loves to chew on her fingers now i realise that she just found them and is excited to have them but i have seen babies with chaped fingers from chewing on them like that my daughter had binkies and she is always wel fed so i dont understand why she choses her fingers over her binki i dont want thing to be a habit that causes her pain later should i intervein she is 3 months old

i feel that she is a bit more advanced than her twin brother is this normal too?she makes noses to her hearts content he only makes noises when he wants my attention she rolled over first but he was close behind and she seems to be awake morethan he is but he is bigger tha she is he eats more and gains weight faster is it wrong to compare them like this by the way he doesnt chew on his fingers he loves his binki

Its normal......if that's what she wants, and not the paci, then let it be. Remember you will have to eventually take that paci away, you don't want her to become dependent on it. Just keep some baby lotion on her hands, like at bed time and stuff and keep her hands covered when she goes out in the cold.

There will be no long-term problems or pain that will develop from your 3 month old chewing on her fingers. It is a normal part of exploring her world. Most babies do it. She does not do it because they taste good nor does she realize yet that they are a part of her body. She has recently discovered them and putting them in her mouth is just her way of "checking them out". As she discovers that she can grasp things with her fingers, she will begin to pick things up and chew on them instead. Some babies do begin sucking their thumb or a finger or two for comfort and prefer this method of soothing over a binki. Even identical twins will have unique personalities and will learn and develop at different rates. There is no benefit to comparing one child with another as they are two different people. It is not unusual for girls to be more social than boys and develop verbal skills earlier than boys. Your son is likely going through some growing times if he is eating and sleeping more. I suggest that you do not interfere with your daughter sucking her fingers unless you want to help her grasp a toy in her hand once in a while. I also suggest that you do not compare your children. Instead, celebrate each milestone that they reach and enjoy their differences, that is what makes each of them special.

To the first question, it is normal for your baby to chew on her fingers. She has just discovered them, and at that age, everything she discovers will go in her mouth. Mine is 4 1/2 months, takes a binky, and chews her fingers ALL the time. It won't hurt anything. Second, it is perfectly normal for twins to progress differently. Just like all babies do things at different times, so do twins. I know it's hard not to compare them to each other, but try not too. I'm sure they are perfect, beautiful and healthy. Best of luck.

I would wait and see how long this actually persists. It could just be her way of soothing herself and sucking fingers is usually not harmful or painful- and some babies just grow out of it.
My daughter sucked her thumb to get to sleep when she was this age and by 6 months she grew out of it. If I had tried to intervene, I could have undermined her ability to self-soothe.

Babies teeth are coming in . I use to work with infant in nursery. If it bugs you, then wash finger stick it in there or teething ring. Teeth won't show until 4 to 9 mos. I also and 6 kids. I hope I'm right. GOD BLESS.

My son does the same thing. And he loves my fingers too ! he never would take a pacifier. I don't really make a big deal about it though. It's anooying but he hasn't had chapped fingers from it or anything. She'll prbably be fine.

She is only 3 months old. Don't worry. It's just a phase babies go through. Sonn she will discover something else and move on. I recommend you get some Dr. Spock books on babies.

I wouldn't worry about it too much.... but if you feel you should intervene, do it.
She's probably teething though...i'd invest in a couple good teething rings. :)

I think it is perfectly normal. I would not do anything about it she will stop.
