Hello,

My son is currently in Year 10 and doing GCSE geography. However he does not appear to get any homework for this subject!
Only a tiny piece say every 6 weeks!

Is this normal for geography GCSE!
I remember doing Olevels and getting tonnes of homework!

Hi, I did GCSE geography over the past two years and am now doing it in my first year of A Levels. From my experience, I would say that this isn't normal, as, although the subject is very coursework based, the exam makes up a large part of the final grade, and homework backs up the work done in class. Whilst doing GCSE geography, I received a large amount of homework every week, or at least most weeks, and now receive double that at A Level.

I was given some EVERY week for Geography. The lessons were 2 and a half hours long and we were expected to spend the same amount of time on our homework

well i don't know about geography as i did not take it.. but I'm in yr11 and now get about 1 or 2 bits of homework per week if that but i have lots of coursework to be doing(should be doing) and i should really start revising for the exams.. i got as far as making a revision timetable .. i remember in yr10 getting lots of homework near the beginning of the school year and then, the amount going down as we started to do coursework in the different subjects. All though the homeworks i did get in year 10 never really took more than 20mins..so i did them in the morning.. as the amount of coursework your son gets goes up the amount of homework he gets will go down .. i think....

There is a lot of emphasis now on coursework done throughout Year 10 and 11 which wasn't the case when you (and I) were studying.
If you have concerns check with his teacher how he is progressing and if up to date with coursework. If that's all ok then don't worry.
